HoNk's Dollars for Change event.

Postby Dflyhonk » 26 Jun 2012, 23:56

Once upon a time, We wrote on money. It was simple! We took a dollar bill (It doesn't have to be a 1 dollar bill, but it's better to get change and turn a larger bill into many 1's, then write on them all) and we wrote a few simple words and it went something like this :

HoNk wants you to Donate me to Childsplaycharity.org. That's it, it's that simple. After that, you spend it. I'm not looking to advertise the website, don't write your name either, I want this to benefit the Charity not us. The whole point of adding the HoNk tag is to prove that it was us. Nobody can come out later on and say they started it, our signature will show HoNk started it.

I eventually want HoNk to be more then just a community, but as our banner says, a way of life. When someone sees those 4 letters they think of change. They imagine a life where even though we all have our problems, we can still work together to be the change that we want to be seen.

The idea around this is that not everyone can afford to donate money, but we can still help. Especially in this economy it can be very hard to donate, and even if we could afford to donate, advertising the charity has a lot more potential then donating a dollar here and there. So many of us wish that we could help, the truth is you can. At the same time we can be helping out a great charity which also shows the world that us Gamers aren't so bad after all.

Many people believe Video games corrupt our minds, I believe that video games can do that exact opposite and make us better people. A big part of why HoNk was started was to be a stress reliever. I don't know about you guys, but HoNk has made me a much better person. I don't know where I'd be if I wasn't apart of this Community.

Let's say we work together to do this, and the money that we write on circulates the globe however many times. Just one dollar could be in a thousand different hands. Their is so much potential. Now imagine writing on a thousand 1 dollar bills if we were to work together. Imagine how many people would notice. If even 10 of those people decided to donated 100 dollars we just helped donate 1000 dollars. Now what if other people outside of HoNk start doing this same thing, and in a few years we have 10's of thousands of these dollars circulating the globe being seen by so many people each day.

I know many of you have seen money that was written on, like http://www.wheresgeorge.com and other various websites. So this has been done before. For those who worry about getting in trouble, don't worry about it. If everyone does something, that makes it right, amirite?

Sincerely,
Your Pal Dragonfly

That's... very emotional. I think I'm going to cry, now.

To everyone: Do this. There's no reason not to. You're going to be buying things anyways, so why not help out while you're at it?
